Welcome to Not a Lab Yet, my personal space where I share my journey in environmental research, agriculture, and data science. In this first post, I want to take you through my path so far, the goals I’m working towards, and how I hope to contribute to solving some of the most pressing challenges facing our environment today.
A Love for Soil and Sustainability
I have always been fascinated by the natural world and how ecosystems work. During my time studying Soil Science at the University of Ghana, I developed a deep appreciation for the complexity of soil ecosystems and how crucial they are for sustaining life. My undergraduate research focused on studying the growth of Azolla Caroliniana a nitrogen fixing aquatic fern, examining how organic and inorganic inputs affect its growth.

Through this project, I learned how small changes in soil composition can have massive impacts on plant growth, crop yields, and, ultimately, food security. This realization solidified my passion for sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
Data Science: A Game-Changer for Agriculture
While working on undergraduate final year research, I became increasingly aware of the power of data science to solve complex environmental problems. Using Python, I have been able to analyze large datasets and generate insights that help optimize agricultural practices. For instance, my personal projects on corn yield prediction showed me how machine learning can be applied to make farming more efficient, even in resource-limited regions.

By combining environmental science with data analytics, I believe we can develop smarter, more sustainable agricultural systems. I’m especially interested in how this approach can be applied to address the growing challenge of drought in regions like northern Ghana.
Tackling Drought in Ghana
One of the most urgent environmental issues facing Ghana, particularly in the northern region, is drought. Water scarcity has devastating effects on crop production, leading to food insecurity and economic instability for local communities. As an aspiring researcher, I am deeply committed to finding solutions that can mitigate the impact of drought on agriculture.

Through my future research, I plan to explore how data science and sustainable agricultural practices can work together to help farmers better manage water resources and grow resilient crops in challenging conditions.
What’s Next: Master’s Program in 2025
As I continue to grow as a researcher, my next big step is pursuing a master’s program, starting in Spring or Fall 2025. Through this website, I hope to document my journey, share insights from my research, and connect with fellow researchers, professors, and industry professionals. I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and the possibility of contributing to meaningful solutions for global challenges like climate change and food security.

Join Me on This Journey
I invite you to follow along as I explore new ways to merge environmental science and data-driven methodologies. Together, we can make agriculture more sustainable and find innovative solutions for the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow.
Thank you for visiting Not a Lab Yet, and I look forward to sharing more of my work and insights with you in the coming months.
